In recent years, with the diminishing of traditional forms of trade barriers, the textile and apparel trade began to achieve complete liberalization since May 1, 2005. However, trade disputes between China and the EU have become increasingly frequent, most of which originated from environmental barriers to trade--a form of non-tariff trade barriers. The set up of trade barriers and an increase in the cost of textile exports weakened the market competitiveness of China's textiles, preventing Chinese textiles being a part of the European market.
