DSC-F828 Cyber-shot Camera Firmware Update Utility Version 2.0

Firmware is the operational software that is embedded in the Cyber-shot camera. This utility will update the firmware of the Cyber-shot to resolve the following issues:

1. During the quick review of the recorded images, when trying to delete a image from a memory stick media containing two or more folders, it may delete a different picture unintentionally or unable to delete the intended picture.
2. When a picture is copied from the computer to the camera via USB2.0 Hi-Speed mode, the file may become corrupted.
When a picture is copied from the computer to the camera via USB connection repeatedly, the file may become corrupted.
3. When DSC-F828 is connected to Macintosh via USB, the drive icon may not appear (the camera may not be recognized).
Note
If the camera is not recognized by the computer, the update of the firmware cannot be done by the following procedures. In such case, bring the DSC-F828 Cyber-shot to your nearest local Sony office (Service Center) for the firmware update.

The process for updating this firmware is to download the compressed firmware file to your computer, decompress the files and then copy it over to Memory Stick(at least 32MB) / Memory Stick Pro / Memory Stick Duo / Memory Stick Pro Duo / CompactFlash card / MicroDrive media. The media is then inserted into the camera and a series of steps are taken to complete the installation. Please read all the information and follow the instructions below.


IMPORTANT NOTES: PLEASE READ CAREFULLY.

WARNING:
1. This utility is only for use with the following Sony Cyber-shot® model camera - DSC-F828.
2. This utility is only for Version 1 by checking the camera Setup 2 Screen. To check the version, please see 'Check the Version' (below).
3. Do not use this firmware to update with any other model of Cyber-shot camera.
4. This Digital Still Camera firmware update and any changes incurred by it are permanent. It is not possible to return to a previous firmware version after updating this firmware. By continuing this update process and downloading and updating this firmware, acknowledgement of awareness and understanding that this update cannot reverse this installation.

Check the Version
1. Turn the mode-SW to SET UP.
2. Press and hold on to the Menu button and turn ON the Cyber-shot.
3. Select Setup 2, at camera screen. Confirm the version listed is 1, at the Setup 2 screen.


IMPORTANT:
This update process requires the following items for proper updating:
1. A computer with:
- Available Hard Disk Space: 5MB or more
- Installed RAM: 32MB or more
- A USB port (requires the USB cable that was provided with the camera**), a Memory Stick Slot or an attached Memory Stick / Memory Stick Pro Reader/Writer
**IMPORTANT: Update functionality is not guaranteed if you use another commercially available USB cable.
- One of these Operating System installed:
- Microsoft Windows(R) XP Home Edition
- Windows(R) XP Professional
- Windows(R) 2000 Professional
- Windows(R) ME (Millennium Edition)
- Windows(R) 98SE (Second Edition)
- Windows(R) 98
- Mac OS X v10.3

- Mac OS X v.10.1
- Max OS X v10.0
- Mac OS 9.2
- Mac OS 9.1

2. Camera power supply
- Use only the AC-L15A AC adaptor that is supplied with a DSC-F828 camera.

3. USB Cable

WARNING:
1. The firmware cannot be updated using NP-FM50 dry battery.
2. It is extremely important to ensure that camera AC power source is not interrupted during this process. The camera may render inoperable if the camera power fails during this update.
3. Use a Memory Stick (at least 32MB) / Memory Stick Pro / Memory Stick Duo / Memory Stick Pro Duo / CompactFlash card / MicroDrive media that was recently formatted with the camera.


IMPORTANT:
1. It is recommended to use Blue Colour Memory Stick / Blue Colour Memory Stick Duo / White Colour MagicGate Memory Stick / White Colour MagicGate Memory Stick Duo.
2. Memory Stick Pro / Memory Stick Pro Duo / non-white(blue) MagicGate Memory Stick / non-white(blue) MagicGate Memory Stick Duo / CompactFlash card / MicroDrive cannot be used for re-Updating.
Note:
It is highly recommended to print out these instructions as a reference during the installation process.
